We really had a fun time building this project. We love when we have an opportunity to completely transform a yard.
When our client came to us, they had an unusable space that was frankly unsafe. The support blocks had shifted and the deck was not sitting level. The boards and joists were also rotten in many places. We came in and completely removed the existing deck before upgrading to maintenance free options that will last for 25-50 years.
We are very pleased with our new deck. The guys did a very professional job and it's quality work. We would definitely recommend them.
For decking on this project, the clients chose Trex Select Saddle. This is the perfect mid-range option. It is a full thickness board (no scallops) and features better scratch resistance. It does this while still coming in close to the entry level price. They paired the decking with Fortress AL 13 Home Aluminum Railing for a sleek, polished look.
We also included skirting on this project. Using the same deck boards but installed horizontally, we were able to close off the bottom of the deck. This prevented any pesky rodents from venturing under the deck, it also gave the deck a completely finished look.
The trend these days is to build wider stairs. Stairs typically act as the focal point of deck designs, and wider, professionally trimmed stairs can elevate a deck. It is also very functional and makes it easier to clear in the winter.
This deck features three sets of composite stairs. When we build our composite stairs, we close in the risers with matching deck boards and mitre the corners. This design hides the edges of the composite boards that don’t look great, creating an eye-catching aesthetic.
